Huonville Lions Auskicker Marlee Vincent has dramatically altered her family’s September holiday plans after winning the country’s most prestigious award for little footballers.
Marlee, 6, was crowned the NAB AFL Auskicker of the Week for Round 15, earning a media appearance in Melbourne last weekend and a return visit in two months to be one of the stars of Grand Final week.
A Hawthorn supporter, Marlee told Channel 7’s Hamish McLachlan she would love to own a horse named Chad after her favourite player, Chad Wingard.
Marlee also used her platform to tip Jai Newcombe for the Rising Star award and lend her support to the establishment of a Tasmanian AFL team.
“In the commentary box she was really excited – there was Watson, McLachlan, Brayshaw all in there so she was very starstruck,” said Nicole Vincent, Marlee’s mum.
“To enter for the award she had to do a short video showing her skills and her love for footy – we entered it and didn’t think we would win, but we got the call and she was so excited,” Ms Vincent said.
Marlee was accepting of Hawthorn’s near certain absence from the AFL finals, and said she would most like to present a premiership medal to Melbourne’s “big number 11, Max Gawn” on Grand Final day.
