A vicious brawl involving armed youths at a popular Oakleigh hub has been captured in shocking video footage.
A mob of youths is seen charging through the popular restaurant strip Eaton Mall, with some engaged in a fight.
Police had initially received reports a man has been assaulted at Warrawee Park, near the train station, about 10.20pm.
Officers searched for the victim but instead found a large group of youths, who were moved from the area.
Less than 30 minutes later, a 29-year-old Oakleigh East man was assaulted at Eaton Mall, where the footage was captured.
He suffered cuts and bruises to the face.
A terrified onlooker said the whole incident was “confronting”.
“Chairs were being thrown everywhere, people were screaming. I’ve never seen anything like it,” she said.
“It’s so scary because this is a family precinct — these teens are out of control.
The Sunday Herald Sun visited Eaton Mall and spoke to dozens of traders who said they were “terrified” after witnessing last night’s brawl.
Cafe worker Marco Berti said the incident was “extremely concerning”.
“It’s really upsetting that’s it’s happened here — there’s usually no trouble. I hope there’s extra police presence now,” Mr Berti said.
Another worker, Steve, who works at a fashion shop, said he hoped there would be additional police presence in the precinct.
“This is terrifying. There used to always be patrols at nighttime. I hope they do this again,” he said.
A cafe worker, who was working nearby where the brawl erupted last night, said he was left “shaken”.
“Coming to work today was really hard. I’ve never seen anything like this happen around here — I’m still lost for words,” he said.
“I thought someone was going to get seriously hurt or worse — I can’t even describe it.”
