A Melbourne woman has tried to wriggle out of a speeding fine with an unusual excuse after she was caught nearly 60kmh over the limit in the city’s west.

A woman who was caught speeding in Melbourne’s west nearly 60kmh over the limit has tried to wriggle out of a fine by arguing her speedometer was using imperial measurement.
About 4.20pm Monday, Fawker Highway Patrol officers spotted a grey Jeep Cherokee travelling 137kmh in an 80kmh zone of Sydney Rd, Campbellfield.

Police pulled the car over and found a 38-year-old woman from Roxburgh Park behind the wheel.
But when questioned by authorities, she told officers that she thought she had been travelling within the limit after her husband had changed the car’s speedometer from metric to imperial.
A vehicle travelling at 137kmh converts to about 85mph.
The Jeep Cherokee was impounded and the driver charged $896.10 in towing costs.
She is expected to be charged with speed-related offences.
