A woman was kept prisoner in a Victorian home, menaced with weapons including a crossbow, and repeatedly raped and bashed over four days, police say.

Darley man Robert Wilson, 32, was tonight charged with three counts of rape, as well as false imprisonment, intentionally causing injury and stealing $3,000 from his female victim over the alleged ordeal which unfolded west of Melbourne last week.

But Mr Wilson declined to appear in Melbourne Magistrates’ night court tonight and made no application for bail, with his lawyer saying he was “content to stay downstairs”.

Magistrate John Doherty said he would have preferred if Mr Wilson fronted court but said “he could not force him”.

MORE LAW AND ORDER

Police allege Wilson menaced the woman with a crossbow and other weapons.

In court documents, police allege the accused met the 39-year-old Vietnamese woman on a dating app Badoo and the pair began speaking regularly and arranged to meet for a date.

After meeting, Mr Wilson began pressuring the woman to change her relationship status on Facebook.

“The accused became very controlling on the victim, asking her to inform him when she left her home, when she got to work or wherever she was going,” a police summary read.

He is alleged to have picked the woman up on March 25 from a suburban business and taken her to a house in Grey St, Darley.

Badoo is an international dating service which claims to be the most popular of its type worldwide.

The woman was allegedly held captive at Grey St for four days and repeatedly abused sexually and physically assaulted.

The nightmare allegedly ended when her friends contacted the man after becoming concerned about her welfare.

It is alleged the man then released her and the matter was reported to police.

The woman’s injuries were so serious that she was taken by ambulance to hospital, where she was treated for serious head and other injuries.

At one point during the ordeal, police allege Mr Wilson threatened to shoot his victim with a bow and arrow.

She begged him to calm down and “think of his daughters”. On another occasion he allegedly forced her to clean his car.

EX-ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER DENIES SEX WITH LAWYER X

Mr Wilson taunted the victim, police allege, saying if she ever disobeyed him he would “turn her into a money making machine and charge men to sleep with her”.

But he denied using weapons to assault the woman saying he was 105kg and she was only 45kgs so “punching her would do enough damage”.

Sexual crimes squad detectives today arrested a man at Darley. He was later charged.

A Grey Street resident told the Herald Sun tonight she was shocked.

“I hadn’t heard anything about it until tonight and I was absolutely shocked when I heard the story on the news,” she said.

“It definitely impacts you security-wise and to be a bit more aware.”

Another resident said she couldn’t believe it.

“I am a bit shocked — it feels strange for something like this to happen in our neighbourhood,” she said.

“I have been living here nearly 28-years and know most of the neighbours well.

“It hasn’t really sunk in yet that it has happened so close to home.”
