A MAN accused of stabbing his own mother to death has refused to face court after being charged with murder.

Jamie Ian Willis, 38, did not show in the docks for his brief hearing at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Sunday.

It comes after the body of Caroline Anne Willis, 69, was found in her Werribee home on Friday.

The homicide squad charged Mr Willis with one count of murder.

The court heard it was Mr Willis’ first time in custody and that he was a diagnosed schizophrenic. He was remanded in custody to reappear in court on June 1.

On Sunday, police and SES crews searched parks and bushes about 1km from the victim’s home for more evidence, following forensic testing of the scene and a search for the murder weapon.

The park they were probing was near where Ms Willis and her son had lived before buying the property in Taworri Cres, in the new Harpley Estate, in late 2016.

Police also put a call out to two teens who had been seen in the area on Thursday afternoon, believing the boy and girl could have seen or heard something at the Willis family home around the time of the alleged murder.

They urged anyone with information to come forward to police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
