He responded by pulling out a knife and holding it to her stomach, causing minor cuts.

About 2:30pm the next day another 17-year-old schoolgirl was waiting with friends at the bus stop on Princes Highway near Harmer Road in Hallam.

Police allege the same man approached the group and began yelling abuse at them.

He then grabbed the teenage girl by the neck and threw her into the bus stop.

The attack left her bruised.

Police say the man was last seen walking left down Harmer Road.

Sgt Pellissier said both were in “great spirits” but that there was a risk the man may reoffend.

“It’s obviously very upsetting. These are incidents you don’t predict are going to happen during the day in public,” she said.

A woman pushing a pram helped the first victim.

Sgt Pellissier urged her and any other witnesses to come forward to help catch the man.

He is described as caucasian, unshaven and aged between 40-50.

He wore black pants, a grey top and a black cap during the Hallam incident.

He was also carrying a black backpack.
