VICTORIA Police is set to announce a massive increase in the reward to catch the child abducting murderer known as Mr Cruel.

It is 25 years next week since Mr Cruel kidnapped his last known victim, 13-year-old Karmein Chan.

The Herald Sun believes the current $300,000 reward is about to be lifted to at least $1 million.

And it’s possible the rewards in relation to two of his other abduction victims, Sharon Wills, 10 and Nicola Lynas, 13, will also be increased — making the total reward a possible $3 million.

That would make it easily the largest reward ever offered in Australia.

Victoria Police is refusing to comment on the size of the reward, or if the current rewards in relation to the three cases will be increased.

Karmein Chan was abducted from her Templestowe home about 8.40pm on April 13, 1991.

The body of the Presbyterian Ladies College student was found just under a year later by a man out walking his dog near a Thomastown electricity substation.

An autopsy later revealed she had been shot at least three times in the back of the head.

Mr Cruel released his previous abduction victims, Sharon Wills after 18 hours and Nicola Lynas after 50 hours.

Neither of them saw Mr Cruel’s face as he was either wearing a balaclava or they were blindfolded.

It’s possible he murdered Karmein because she may have unmasked him and once she had seen his face he felt he had to kill her to prevent being arrested.
