Two people arrested at brothel-turned-rehab centre

A police raid on a former Melbourne brothel has allegedly uncovered a clandestine drug lab, with investigators causing a “massive commotion” when they swooped.

Three men have been charged in relation to a clandestine drug lab allegedly uncovered in a Melbourne brothel-turned-rehab centre.

A Queensland man has became the third person charged over a drug raid on the brother-turned rehab centre.

The 32-year-old was charged with manufacturing commercial quantities of a drug of dependence over the operation at the Wellbeing Planet rehab service in Elsternwick.

The premises, in Horne St, had formerly been the Daily Planet brothel.

The charged man will appear in Melbourne Magistrates’ court today.

Two other men, a 56-year-old from Wallan, and a 61-year-old from Cranbourne South, appeared in court yesterday charged with drug-related offences.

They were arrested this week as part of an operation by detectives from the clandestine laboratory squad.

Both were remanded to appear in Melbourne Magistrates Court on April 21.

A 66-year-old Elsternwick woman was released without charge from custody and is expected to be charged on summons with drug related offences.

Three people were arrested.

A crime scene guard remained on the property overnight and searching of the premises are continuing.

Victoria Police said the 56-year-old man has been charged with possessing equipment, substances and materials for trafficking in a drug of dependence and intentionally permitting another person to use that land and premises for the trafficking in a drug of dependence.

The other man, aged 61, was charged with possessing equipment, substances and materials for trafficking in a drug of dependence, trafficking a commercial quantity of methylamphetamine and a firearms offence.

Victoria Police described the inquiry as an “extensive investigation”.

Seven News reported a warrant was also executed on a neighbouring accountancy firm.

Members of the drug taskforce and Prahran and Caulfield divisional response unit were also involved in the operation.
