He is expected to be charged on summons for drink driving and traffic offences.

The driver managed to walk away from the crash uninjured.

The driver of the hatchback, a 23-year-old Burwood man, was trapped in the wreckage but was freed by specialist Metropolitan Fire Brigade crews from Nunawading.

Ambulance Victoria said he was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with minor injuries and was in a stable condition.

Springvale Rd’s southbound lanes were closed, forcing traffic to detour near Station St. The road reopened this morning.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Any witnesses or anyone who saw the ute prior to the smash was urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
