Two bodies found at Kew house

THE family of a grandmother found dead in her Kew home say they are saddened her life ended in the company of someone she trusted.

The 70-year-old woman’s body was discovered at her Princess St property on Monday along with the body of a 69-year-old man.

In a statement, her three children said they were grief-stricken at the loss of the “beautiful” woman.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of our mother in the company of a person who she considered a friend,” they said.

“She was a beautiful mother and grandmother who loved her family passionately.”

They said their mother was a woman who enjoyed many hobbies and always had fun.

“We are grief-stricken that this beautiful woman has been taken from us but she can never be taken from our hearts,” they said.

“Whilst we understand the interest in this tragic matter, we would appreciate that the privacy of our family is respected at this time.”

Police continue to investigate the deaths at a luxury $2 million home where the bodies were discovered just before 4pm yesterday.

One body was found in the bathroom, and the other in the loungeroom area.

Cars including a black BMW convertible, a black-and-gold Lotus Esprit with club plates, and a blue Lotus Elan were parked in the drive as police cordoned off the four-bedroom property on Monday afternoon.

Sources close to the inquiry said police were investigating the possibility of a murder-suicide.

Victoria Police said a report is being prepared for the coroner. But they have confirmed no other person is being sought over the deaths.

Police would not comment on reports a gun had been found at the scene.

Residents described how a couple lived at the address but it hasn’t been confirmed who the dead pair are.

Devastated family members arrived on Monday night and could be seen speaking with detectives.

This morning police left and a cleaning crew arrived.

Officers were seen searching the boot of one car by torchlight.

Three forensic crews arrived at the house, which is set back from the street behind a brick rendered fence, shortly after 6.30pm last night.

One woman, who said she knew the deceased, told the Herald Sun the family was distraught but would “be all right in the end”.

Neighbours described the residents as “quite reserved”, saying they rarely saw the couple, but the man appeared not in great health.

He was often seen driving his “James Bond Lotus” in the area, according to a passer-by cyclist.

Another neighbour said the male resident was sometimes driven by his female partner.

“They kept to themselves,” one neighbour said.

Some passers-by stopped to peer into the home, near the corner of Molesworth St.

According to property records, the house was last sold in 2004 for $680,000. It is now estimated to be worth about $2 million.

Just before 7pm, a man, who said he was the employer of the deceased male, arrived at the scene. He said he was still coming to terms with what had occurred.

The house was on Monday night under heavy police guard.
