A truck that smashed into a bridge has blocked off traffic on Racecourse Rd in Flemington.
The crash happened on the busy road about 9.20pm near Newmarket station.
The truck was carrying a load of forklifts and one of the machines was left sprawled on the road.
The bridge strike is the latest in a series of traffic incidents at the 3.7m high bridge, which has drawn calls for greater safety measures such as a warning gantry and laser beams.
Police were directing traffic away from the area and VicRoads warned drivers to take a detour, with the road closed in both directions.
Trams and train services were also affected.
An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said they were called to assess one patient at the scene but there were no serious injuries reported.
A VicRoads traffic centre spokeswoman said there was no estimated time on when the road would reopen.
