Victoria Police has waged war with gangs of young thugs who carry out carjackings and home invasions in recent months.

At the start of May Operation Cosmas - which brings various investigators together - was launched.

“These investigators within each region were allocated additional resources to the operation which aims to prevent, deter and investigate aggravated burglaries and carjackings,” a police spokeswoman said.

Day and night patrols are taking place at high risk locations to try and prevent offences taking place but the young gangs are still carrying out brazen robberies on an almost daily basis.

More than 75 arrests have been made since the new police operation began.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman could not give more details about the arrests overnight but said more information would be provided later.
