THIEVES have snatched four puppies from a pet shop during a burglary in Melbourne’s east overnight.
Police have labelled the theft a “low act” after it was discovered dogs, aged just 7 and 9 weeks, were taken from Rainbow Jungle Pet Store in Camberwell.
There are fears for the welfare of the pups, who at a young age need constant care.
Boroondara Crime Investigation Unit Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Eric Young said police were told of a break-in after an alarm sounded from the Toorak Rd store about 11.20pm last night.
“This is very unusual,” Sen-Sgt Young said.
“It’s a pretty low act. There is the genuine concern that they’re not being looked after properly and given adequate care.”
It’s believed 7-week-old and two 9-week-old Cavalier King Charles spaniel x Poodle puppies had been taken.
