‘Swarming’ thieves dumped getaway car after stealing from Pacific Werribee

Pacific Werribee shopping centre has been targeted by another alarming “swarming” theft, with a gang of men raiding a store before fleeing in their getaway car.

A group of thieves swarmed a shopping centre in Hoppers Crossing over the weekend, stealing clothes and running off.

Police were called to the Pacific Werribee shopping centre on Sunday after reports five men had entered a store and stolen a large amount of clothing around 10.30am.

The group then fled in a Holden Commodore with stolen plates, which was found dumped in Wyndham Vale later that day.

Victoria Police sergeant Cameron Scott said police were still searching for the men.

“Police are investigating after multiple offenders were involved in a theft at a Hoppers Crossing shopping centre,” Sgt Scott said.

“Five males entered a store on Heaths Rd and stole a large amount of clothing items about 10.30am on Sunday.

“The offenders were perceived to be of African appearance.”

It follows a spate of recent swarming thefts at clothing and electronic stores across Melbourne.
