BIKIE links will be investigated over the pre-dawn firebombing of a soon-to-be opened tattoo shop in Melbourne’s inner south.
A molotov cocktail was thrown through the window of a South Melbourne shop in City Rd in the early hours of this morning, sparking a small fire.
The Herald Sun understands it was the second consecutive night a molotov cocktail was thrown at the shop after threats were received during the week.
An avenue for police will be to probe outlaw motorcycle links to the incidents.
The couple opening up the business are setting up just a kilometre from the Mongol-linked Victims of Ink in Port Melbourne, which has been run by a bikie who can’t be named for legal reasons.
The Port Melbourne tattoo parlour is part of a chain of three across Melbourne.
The Port Melbourne shop was raided in March by police.
Another tattoo parlour, City of Ink, co-owned by former Bandido Toby Mitchell, is also nearby in Clarendon St.
There is no suggestion proprietors of either business are suspected of the firebombing.
Police say the offenders broke the City Rd shop’s window before throwing the explosive inside about 3.15am.
The molotov cocktail rolled along a hallway, causing a small fire.
A man and woman were sleeping upstairs at the time but were not injured.
A second explosive was found on the footpath outside the shop but had not been ignited.
The store is being renovated and is due to be opened as a tattoo parlour.
