Two shotgun wielding thugs bashed a man and stole his motorbike when he arrived at his Bernborough Avenue home about 8pm.
The armed thugs demanded the victim’s motorbike and assaulted him when he refused.
Neighbour Allistair Carnes feared for his wife and young children during the ordeal.
“I’m not sure I want to live here anymore, it makes you think ‘are we next?,” he said.
Mr Carnes said the victim, who has yet to be identified, was a “big muscly bloke” who would “take a lot to be knocked over”.
The father of two said the robbery had shattered his sense of security in the quiet neighbourhood.
The victim was taken to hospital and treated for head injuries.
An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said a man in his 30s was taken to the Alfred Hospital in a serious condition with cuts, chest injuries and a suspected arm fracture.
He remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital.
Blood could be seen splattered outside the front door of one neighbour’s house.
The neighbour did not want to be identified but confirmed the victim had sought help at the property following the attack.
There were unconfirmed reports of a carjacking in Rosebud overnight.
The incidents were the latest in a horror week of crime for Victoria, with repeated home invasions putting residents on edge.
