A KICKBOXER has waited until the day his murder trial was set to start to admit fatally shooting a man in a Melbourne suburban street.
A jury was expected to be empanelled in the Supreme Court murder trial of Kamil Yucel today.
But instead, Yucel, 29, in a plea deal, had his murder charge downgraded, and he pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

He shot aspiring young cricketer Rahat Khan, 20, in the chest in Dallas, north of Melbourne, on July 12, 2016.
An earlier court hearing heard Mr Khan and his friend, Masi Rawan, had just had a kebab and were on their way to a mosque to pray when they stopped on Yucel’s street.
Mr Rawan claimed a confrontation escalated to Yucel drawing a gun from his pocket and firing at them twice, forcing them to take cover behind a car.
But Mr Khan was hit in the chest and died.
Mr Rawan denied suggestions he had gone to the street with Mr Khan to "stand over" Yucel.
Khan, an Afghani migrant, came to Australia as a child and settled in North Dandenong with his family.
Yucel is facing a maximum sentence of 20 years jail.
He will return to the Supreme Court for a plea hearing on August 10.
