FRIENDS and family of a dad stabbed to death in South Melbourne’s main shopping strip say they are dumbfounded.

FRIENDS and family of a dad stabbed to death in South Melbourne’s main shopping strip say they are dumbfounded.

Eric Trinh, best known as Ricky, was walking along Clarendon St with a female friend about 11pm on Friday when, near the corner of Bank St, he was stabbed in the neck.

He was taken to hospital, but died on arrival.

Loved ones told the Herald Sun they were in shock.

“We are dumbfounded by what has happened,’’ one said.

“He was a devoted father and family man who would have done anything for anyone.”

Friends paid tribute online.

“Rest in peace Ricky T. You didn’t deserve to go like that,’’ one wrote.

“Now you can guide me from above.”

Police were still searching for Mr Trinh’s killer.

Detectives believe the attack wasn’t random, and were confident of making an arrest after viewing CCTV footage from a nearby ANZ bank.

They were also trying to find a large truck parked on Clarendon St on Friday night.

Mr Trinh’s family was too distressed to comment.

Anyone who has any information should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or at crimestoppers.com.au.
