Sex offender inmates in violent war at Village of the Damned

Victoria’s most dangerous sex fiends are taking out intervention orders against each other as a war rages inside the notorious Village of the Damned residential detention in Ararat.

Should Australia introduce a public sex offenders register?

Victoria’s most dangerous sex fiends are taking out intervention orders against each other as a war rages inside the notorious Village of the Damned.

Detainees at Ararat’s Corella Place — which houses sex offenders who have served time in prison but are too dangerous to return to the community — are resorting to the measure amid fears for their safety.

The Sunday Herald Sun can reveal two residents were recently jailed for a month-long campaign of terror against another resident. The men used standover tactics to extort prescription medication from their victim, who they threatened to kill.

The victim took out an intervention order after the men threatened to “cave his head in”.

The Sunday Herald Sun has been told that this incident, along with others, have forced authorities to make special operational arrangements to ensure detainees can comply with strict intervention order conditions.

It is believed there are several orders in place protecting residents from each other.

One is believed to involve two of the state’s highest-profile sex pests, who have been involved in an ongoing violent feud.

Detainees at Corella Place live in supervised living quarters in one-, two- and three-bedroom houses.

Inmates are monitored with GPS ankle bracelets and can only leave the grounds under supervision.

A strict curfew is imposed.

Those ordered to live there are required to attend mandatory counselling sessions and rehabilitation programs.

A Corrections Victoria spokeswoman refused to comment on how many orders were in place or whether there were concerns for residents.

“As community members, Corella residents have the right to deal with conflict and seek protection through intervention orders like anyone else,” she said.

“Staff support residents to make police statements where necessary, and assist with case management, including monitoring residents’ interactions and conducting welfare checks.

“The residents are serious sex offenders and the cohort is often challenging, with many dealing with mental health conditions, intellectual disabilities, acquired brain injuries or problems socialising.”
