Assistant Commissioner Tess Walsh, one of the state’s top police officers, is believed to be one of the other parties to the dispute.
One other officer is embroiled in the dispute, Victoria Police has confirmed.
“Victoria Police is working hard to resolve a workplace dispute involving three members of the management team in the western region of Victoria, which encompasses Geelong,” the spokeswoman said.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman said acting Supt Graham Banks was taking on Supt Gillard’s role in his absence.
“Police in Geelong take enormous pride in their service to the community. We are committed to resolving this issue as quickly as possible,” the spokeswoman said.
