Russell St bomber tweets: account in Craig Minogue’s name

ONE of Australia’s most notorious criminals, Russell Street bomber Craig Minogue, appears to be tweeting from jail, despite being banned from accessing social media.

THE notorious Russell Street bomber, Craig Minogue, appears to be tweeting from jail despite being banned from having anything allowing him access to social media.

Corrections Victoria officials believe Minogue is getting around the ban by sending messages out of jail to someone else, who is then posting to Twitter.

The Twitter account in the jailed killer’s name has surfaced in recent days, on which he talks about his fight to be free and shares sounds files.

“This month marks the 32nd year that I have been in prison and I want to let people know that I AM NOT DEAD YET despite media reports to the contrary,” one post says.

It goes on to provide a postal address on which followers can contact him.

A Corrections Victoria spokeswoman said: “Prisoners do have the right to communicate with approved people, subject to requirements of the Corrections Act.

“If a member of the public chooses to publish this sort of material on the internet, that’s their business, but Corrections Victoria does not endorse or support it.

“Like the rest of the community, we would expect whoever is facilitating this activity outside prison to consider the effect that publishing this information has on victims of crime.”

Minogue, 55, has spent the past 31 years in jail over the Russell St police headquarters blast which killed policewoman Angela Taylor and injured 22 others.

The State Government has introduced laws which would forbid him and other police killers from ever being freed.

He appeared in court last month, complaining that his letters are being edited by prison authorities when they exceed 10 pages.

Minogue has been active on the internet for many years.

He has a website proclaiming his innocence and displaying his academic writings.
