RUSSELL St bomber Craig Minogue has confessed his role in the shocking crime that took the life of police officer Angela Taylor.
The double murderer, who is vying for parole, admitted his role in the devastating terror act to Inspector Bernie Rankin several years ago.
Inspector Rankin has told Channel 9’s 60 Minutes, in an interview to be aired tonight, he was “astonished’’ to hear Minogue make the admission.

“I reminded him that he was actually rightfully convicted of the Russell St bombing,’’ Insp Rankin says. “And he paused for a moment and he said, ‘Yes, I was rightfully convicted’.
“And I must say I was astonished because to my knowledge that’s the first time he’d ever admitted the fact that he did in fact blow up Russell St.’’
Reporter Ross Coulthart then asks: “So after 25 years the Russell St killer finally admitted his crime?”
Insp Rankin replies: “He did yes. And you wonder what’s behind his motive for all this.
“(It’s) like he’s trying to get parole and he’s trying to demonstrate to a parole board that he’s no longer a risk.’’
The 1986 bomb blast outside the Russell St police complex outraged Victorians, but Minogue went on to kill again, bashing fellow inmate Alex Tsakmakis in prison two years later.
He was convicted of killing of Tsakmakis but sentenced to no extra time in jail.
Minogue has since used the system to study for degrees.
Constable Taylor was 21 when she was struck by the explosion in Russell St, dying later in hospital. A further 22 people were injured.
