RUSSELL St bomber Craig Minogue has applied for parole.
Minogue has been in jail since 1986, the year of the horrific attack which killed young police officer Angela Taylor and injured 21 other people.
Minister for Corrections Steve Herbert last night said: “The community’s expectations are clear on this matter — as are the government’s.
“Community safety is the absolute priority for the Adult Parole Board when it considers an application for parole and we fully expect the board to take the community’s concerns into consideration.”
The state’s parole system has been strengthened in recent years after a succession of murders linked to prisoners given early release.
The Herald Sun revealed late last year Minogue had been transferred to medium security Loddon Prison, a jail used inmates nearing release.
Former Russell St investigators and police injured in the atrocity have previously expressed concerns about the release of Minogue.
Minogue’s fellow Russell St bomber Stan Taylor died last week in a secure wing of St Vincent’s Hospital.
He had been serving life with no parole.
