A TEENAGE girl was among two people killed in separate car crashes on the state’s roads on Saturday.
The 16-year-old girl from Barwon Heads died after the car she was in rolled a number of times at Gellibrand in the Otway Ranges just after 2.30pm.
It’s believed the driver, a 20-year old from Clifton Springs, lost control of the Nissan 4WD before it rolled a number of times on Frys Road near Colac-Lavers Hill Road.
The young girl, who was sitting in the back seat, died at the scene.
The driver of the car, who remains in police custody, was taken to Colac hospital along with another female passenger where they were both treated for minor injuries.
A short time later a Warrnambool man, who was a passenger in a station wagon, died in hospital after a separate crash in South Geelong.
The white Holden Commodore station wagon collided with a Toyota LandCruiser ute at the corner of Barwon Terrace and Bellerine Street just before 2.30pm.
It is believed the driver of the Toyota Landcruiser was attempting to turn right into Bellarine Street when the incident unfolded. No-one else was injured.
Police are investigating the cause of both crashes.
Victoria’s road toll stands at 211, compared with 247 for this time last year.
Police are also appealing for witnesses after a cyclist was hit by a car in Breakwater earlier this morning.
The cyclist was hit by a blue Holden Vectra sedan as it approached a roundabout at Breakwater Road about 11am.
The 69-year-old East Geelong man was thrown his bike and taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
The driver of the Holden, a 60-year-old Drysdale woman, is currently assisting police with their inquiries.
