A CRAZED driver is on the run after he threw a hammer across four lanes during an unprovoked road rage attack in Melbourne’s southeast.
Michael Miteff, in his early 60s, said he was stopped at a red light on High Street Rd in Glen Waverley when he was attacked about 5.30am on Wednesday.

“I was in the left lane and he was four lanes across in the right lane,” Mr Miteff said.
“I heard this almighty bang and the next thing I knew this car was tearing off, wheels screeching and there was glass everywhere.
“I honestly thought the man driving away had fired a shot at me, I was terrified.”
Mr Miteff drove his blue Mazda 3 to a nearby shopping centre and called police. It’s understood a number of police vehicles descended on the shopping centre, thinking a shooter might have been on the loose.
However, Leading Constable Natalie Dean said detectives found a hammer in the rear seat of the vehicle and the rear passenger’s side window broken.
It’s not understood what sparked the road rage incident.
Mr Miteff said he no longer felt safe driving.
“I shudder to think how close the hammer came to hitting my head,” Mr Miteff said.
“I was shaking for half an hour.”
The alleged offender drove off through a red light along Springvale Rd in a dark Mazda sedan.
Investigators were also told a number of cyclists may have witnessed the incident and are appealing for them to come forward.
Mr Miteff was not injured in the incident.
