Prison officers punched in nasty scuffle inmate

Two prisoner guards have been punched after a prisoner lashed out during a visitors session with his mother, who fainted at the scene.

Two prison officers were punched in a nasty fracas involving an inmate at a maximum security jail.

The incident unfolded in the visits area at the Metropolitan Remand Centre on the weekend when the accused criminal lost his cool.

The Herald Sun understands the prisoner became upset when told it was time to wrap up the visit and head back to his unit.

He lashed out without warning and punched two officers before being restrained.

The mother of another prisoer fainted in the excitement and was treated at the scene.

The officers were not badly hurt.

The MRC is a maximum security jail in Melbourne’s western suburbs which is largely reserved for unsentenced prisoners.
