SEVERAL inmates have attacked up to three prison officers and caused damage at Malmsbury Youth Justice Centre, police believe.
It’s unclear how many youths were involved in the alleged assault, but one officer was left with facial injuries.
Paramedics were called to treat him and another prison officer about 2.45pm today.
The staff member – aged in his 30s – has been taken to Bendigo Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
It’s believed he and his colleague were punched and kicked to the head during the alleged assault.
A Corrections Victoria spokesman confirmed all inmates have been put into lockdown.
The Herald Sun was told a number of code blacks, blues, greys and greens were called during the incident.
A code black is called for assault, code blue for injury and code white for rioting. Code green is a signal for suspected escape.
No inmates escaped but sources say it showed how chaotic the situation was at the time of the incident.
It’s also believed youths caused damage to the centre during the incident. Police are investigating.
