A bomb was allegedly left in a Caroline Springs hotel, sparking a mass evacuation. A man has been arrested nearby, capping off a dramatic morning in Melbourne’s west.

A man allegedly left an item resembling bomb in a Caroline Springs pub this morning after a dispute with staff.
The 45-year-old Derrimut man entered the WestWaters Hotel & Entertainment Complex on Lake St at about 8am, before fleeing and leaving what resembled to be a bomb inside.
He was arrested soon after at the Sugar Gum Hotel on Gourlay Rd, Hillside.

“It’s alleged he left an item resembling an old army ordnance device at the premises before leaving,” a Victoria Police spokeswoman said.
The man is assisting police with their inquiries.
Police are conducting safety checks at the WestWaters Hotel and the Sugar Gum Hotel.
