A WOMAN whose remains were found in a river has been identified, as police appeal for information to piece together how she died.
Investigators have named the woman as 40-year-old Geelong West resident Melanie Blogg.
Two male rowers made the grim discovery in the Barwon River, near the James Harrison Bridge, in Newton two weeks ago.
A post-mortem was conducted but it is not yet known whether her death is suspicious.
Police have released images of Melanie and are appealing for information to help determine what happened in the final moments of her life.
CCTV footage captured Melanie on the night of 17 August looking disoriented, wearing a hoodie, black socks and only one shoe.
It appears she is not wearing anything on her lower body apart from underwear.
She can be seen at about 6:30pm walking north on Halstead Place in Geelong West, then along Spring Street towards Pakington Street.
An hour later she returned to Halstead Place, before walking east along Spring Street towards Latrobe Terrace.
Investigators are appealing for anyone who saw or had contact with Melanie from 16 August onwards to come forward.
They are also asking local business owners and other residents in the area who own CCTV cameras to check if they have any vision of her.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
