POLICE have released images of a man they wish to speak with over a cowardly attack on Herald Sun columnist Andrew Bolt.
Two thugs accosted Bolt as he made his way to a book signing in Carlton North on Tuesday last week around 12.15pm.
The duo — whose faces were covered and wore hooded jumpers — threw glitter and shaving cream at the commentator before a scuffle broke out.
BOLT: Time fascists were victims instead
The culprits fled the scene, on Lygon St near Argyle Place East.
Another man who was in the area at the time appeared to be filming or taking photos, Victoria Police said in a statement.
Bolt had just arrived at the Il Gambero restaurant in Lygon St for the launch of The Art of the Impossible.
Security cameras captured him kicking and “clobbering” the Left-wing thugs in self defence.
Detectives from Melbourne North Crime Investigation Unit believe the man pictured in images released this afternoon can assist with their inquiries.
Bolt has said numerous previous threats meant he was prepared for such an incident.
“I’ve been menaced by protesters and spent many nights worrying about what I would do if I was attacked, it was like reverting to a script,” he said.
“It has backfired on them. They look like the fools. They were the ones who were humiliated.”
