VICTORIA Police have obtained three new state of the art mobile forensics labs which can be deployed to major crime scenes, including terror attacks and natural disasters.
The fleet includes a command facility, a technical facility and a laboratory and analytical facility, all equipped with cutting edge forensic technology.
They will be able to upload and process CCTV footage and receive information from forensic officers at the scene, such as fingerprint images, photos and 3D scans of the area.

They also have devices that can see through packaging.
Counter Terrorism Assistant Commissioner Ross Guenther said the vehicles would significantly improve Victoria Police’s crime scene response.
“Police work around the clock to prevent and disrupt terrorist activity,” he said. “(But) in the event of a terror attack, it is essential to quickly establish who is responsible and what potentially dangerous materials have been used.
“These vehicles will allow us to test potentially harmful substances at the scene of the crime rather than transporting samples to our forensic headquarters in Macleod, saving precious hours in a critical investigation.”
