POLICE have busted a bayside ice trafficking ring and arrested three people.

Caulfield Divisional Response Unit (DRU) detectives arrested three people after executing warrants in Beaumaris and Hampton on Wednesday morning.

Investigators carried out the arrests as part of a probe into the alleged trafficking of drugs.

Detectives arrested a 19-year-old Beaumaris woman in Hutchison St and seized methylamphetamine and stolen property.

The woman is expected to be charged with trafficking a drug of dependence, handling stolen goods and dealing in the proceeds of crime.

A 53-year-old man from Mentone was also arrested at the same time.

Investigators then arrested a 50-year-old man in Hampton.

He is being interviewed in relation to trafficking drugs of dependence, handling stolen goods, using a carriage service to menace and making threats to destroy property.

The arrests marked the beginning of Operation Saturate.

Detective Senior Sergeant Shane Rix said: “We have identified a recent increase in drug activity and crime such as thefts and burglaries occurring in the area and we’re absolutely determined to reverse it.

“Investigations conducted so far have led to identifying premises police believe have been contributing to the drug activity.

“This morning search warrants were executed on two premises which has resulted in three arrests.

“Uniform, traffic, plain clothes police and detectives will continue to target criminal and dangerous activity in the area, with the aim of detecting, disrupting, deterring and prosecuting offenders.

“The community should expect a highly visible police presence over the next four days. “Members will be checking vehicles, drivers and any suspicious persons.”

Operation Saturate concludes on Sunday.

All three people arrested were due to face Moorabbin Magistrates’ Court today.
