Police appeal for crucial cold case lead call backs

HOMICIDE detectives are urging two people who provided crucial information about cold case murders of Ricky Balcombe and Larry Weber to contact them again.

Cash rewards to help solve murders

POLICE believe two informants may hold the key to solving two Victorian cold case murders.

Earlier this month, a person contacted police with information about the murder of teen Ricky Balcombe in Geelong in 1995.

Another person came forward with information about the brutal 2002 murder of Larry Weber in Rowville.

Police have issued an urgent call for the informants to get back in touch with police, suggesting they may hold the key to cracking both of the murder cases.

Detective Inspector Michael Hughes indicated those who shared new information with police may have done so due to changed personal circumstances.

“We know that relationships change and circumstances can alter,” he said.

“It’s a long time for someone to be living with the knowledge of a crime as serious as a murder.

“We’d love to be able to speak to these two people again and hopefully give these families, who never stop grieving, some resolution.”

Mr Balcombe was 16 years of age when he was stabbed to death outside Market Square Mall in Geelong.

Police believe the person who came forward with information about his death on March 22 may also know crucial information about the murder weapon and the clothing worn by the offender.

The prime suspect in the teen’s murder, Karl Hague, this week broke his silence after years under the police probe.

He encouraged authorities to “bring on” any future investigations, claiming he had nothing to hide.

TOOLBOX COULD HOLD CRUCIAL CLUE IN MURDER OF LARRY WEBER

Police believe the person who contacted them over the callous death of Mr Weber on March 20 may be able to assist in identifying his killer or other people with direct knowledge of his death.

After being taunted with dozens of knife flicks and slashes to the neck and face, Larry was repeatedly stabbed through the skull outside his Rowville home.

His lifeless body was then dragged across the front lawn to a neighbour’s driveway.

The killer then climbed into Larry’s own car, and drove over him.

His broken and bloodied body was found by a passing motorist some time later.

His throat had been slashed and his skull split open.
