A MAN has died and a woman seriously injured after a petrol tanker and car collided at an intersection near Geelong.

A MAN has died at the scene of a crash in Corio on Monday after the vehicle he was driving collided with a truck.

It is believed a petrol tanker was travelling north on Broderick Rd when it collided with a ute travelling east at the Heales Rd intersection about 4.40pm on Monday.

The male driver, aged in his 20s, was worked on by paramedics but died at the scene.

Emergency services were working to identify the man on Monday evening

A woman in her 20s, believed to be a passenger in the ute, suffered a chest injury and was flown to the The Alfred Hospital.

She is in a serious but stable condition as of Monday night.

The uninjured male driver of the truck, aged in his 60s, was assessed at the scene but did not require any treatment.

He is assisting police and Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives with their inquiries.

CFA crews attended the scene but the petrol tanker did not pose a fire risk.

It’s believed the truck travelled up an embankment and through the fence of a nearby business.
