AN OFF-DUTY cop has been bashed and threatened after standing up for a bus driver who was being hassled.
The senior constable, Dave Thorne, was set upon after he got off the bus last Thursday afternoon at the Waverley Gardens shopping centre in Mulgrave.

“These kids were giving the driver a hard time,” Mr Thorne told 3AW.
“As I’ve gotten off the bus, I’ve literally said something along the lines of ‘guys, pull your heads in he’s just trying to do his job’,” he said.
He said a group of ten followed him off the bus and a male and a female pulled out weapons.
“A male, took out a box cutter, like a Stanley knife and a female pulled out some sort of pointy weapon,” he said today.
The officer was then hit from behind and was taken to hospital.
The alleged assault is being investigated by Victoria Police after the altercation at the bus terminal.
“A 16-year-old Glen Waverley man has been interviewed and is expected to be charged on summons at a later date,” a police spokeswoman said on Monday.
