Noel Faure dead at 62: Notorious hitman dies in prison

NOTORIOUS hitman Noel Faure has died in prison, taking his underworld secrets with him to the grave.

Faure, 62, died in a secret prison location on December 30 after a long illness.

Faure is part of a notorious crime family who was jailed for life for the murder of Lewis Moran and shooting of Herbert Wrout at the Brunswick Club in March 2004.

In prison, Faure became erratic, attempting self-harm several times before he was moved to more favourable conditions.

He contracted Hepatitis C and cirrhosis of the liver after years of drinking.

The notorious crook came from a family of criminals — many of whom have serious criminal convictions.

His grandfather was a Sydney underworld figure executed during a feud with other criminals.

His father was a safecracker and painter and docker, and Noel spent his entire life mixing with criminals; spending long stints in jail.

Faure had convictions including armed robbery, manslaughter, assault and conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary.

In 1992, Faure was convicted of killing Frank Truscott, a friend who he shot in the head at point blank range while in a haze of drugs and alcohol in a fight over a burglary.

“It was just like killing a sheep,” Faure said to his wife, who he had married when she was just 16.

Faure had his sentenced for that heavily reduced on appeal.

Faure dropped out of Coburg Technical College in form three and combined his life of crime with stints on oil rigs as a butcher, which was cut short after he was kicked by a steer.

He then ran a caravan park in Rye and a Two-up school which sent him bankrupt.

Authorities believe Faure died knowing the secrets of several high-profile murders, including the circumstances surrounding the daylight murder of Shane Chartres-Abbott.

Faure is also believed to have held information on corrupt police.
