New victims of elite school paedophile Vili Kovac come forward
A PREDATORY paedophile employed by elite schools Xavier College and Marcellin College has had a jail term extended after two more victims came forward. He has now been prosecuted for abusing 14 victims at the elite schools.

THE number of victims of a predatory paedophile employed by elite schools Xavier College and Marcellin College continues to grow.
Former Olympian Vili Kovac had a jail term extended this month after two more victims came forward.
Xavier has previously claimed it knew of no paedophiles at the school who had been prosecuted, but it emerged that Kovac had served lengthy jail terms in the 1980 and 1990s for vile abuse of students in the 1960s.
In 2015, then school principal Chris Hayes said: “There has been no criminal prosecution or matter brought to the criminal court relating to any Xavier Jesuit or Xavier lay teacher referring to sexual abuse at Xavier college.”
But Kovac has now been prosecuted over 14 victims associated with the schools, although sources say the true number of victims is many times that.
Many of Kovac’s victims say they have been unable to reach their potential because of their abuse. Others lives’ have been blighted by alcohol and drug abuse.
Kovac received lengthy jail sentences in both 2005 and 2008 for offences committed against boys from the school.
He was also prosecuted as early as 1970 of the abuse of six boys.
Kovac targeted vulnerable boys at the school, abusing them on school camps.
He exploited one boy’s family’s desperate financial state by paying him for sexual services.
The now frail 85-year-old was jailed last year, for four years, for more offending against boys at the school.

This month the diagnosed paedophile had his jail sentences effectively extended by two months after two more victims — students from each school — came forward.
Two years ago, a former student complained to Xavier about Kovac after Mr Hayes claimed no priest of lay teacher at the school had been prosecuted.
“But you really need to do more. While I have no concrete facts about the full scope of
Kovac’s activities and departure, I can do better than surmise that Xavier was derelict in failing to make sure that he was denied further opportunities to scar so many young lives,” the student said.
The student says Kovac’s offending was known but he was allowed to leave Xavier in 1967 and continue abusing boys at Marcellin.
Kovac migrated to Australia after representing Yugoslavia at the Olympic in track and field.
Judge Susan Cohen this month said Kovac had show little remorse for his offending.
