POLICE have released new information regarding missing schoolgirl Bung Siriboon after the teen’s disappearance five years ago today.

Bung left her home in Elsie Street, Boronia about 8.30am on Thursday June 2 in 2011 and was last seen by a neighbour as she walked to school.

Despite Police offering a $1 million reward, the hunt for the missing schoolgirl continues.

Homicide Squad Detective Insp Mick Hughes this morning said investigators had dealt with around 1200 information reports and identified almost 30 main suspects as part of the case.

Not all suspects had been discounted.

Detectives previously released information on two possible sightings of Bung on the morning of her disappearance, but now claim there was a potentially a third.

While police say they can’t confirm it was Bung, the teen was possibly seen in the front seat of a white station wagon on Napoleon Road in Rowville between 8.45am and 9am the day she disappeared exactly five years ago.

The vehicle is similar to a white 1971-1973 Holden HQ Kingswood station wagon with no rear seats, which may have been folded down.

The male driver is described as caucasian appearance, in his late 30s to early 40s. He was either bald or had light coloured hair.

He had a large tattoo on the left side of his neck and sleeve style tattoos on both arms.

Homicide Squad Detective Inspector Michael Hughes said while investigators couldn’t confirm the girl in the vehicle was Bung, they were calling for public assistance.

The witness who saw a girl matching Bung’s description in the mystery vehicle in early June, 2011 came forward two years ago but police had conducted their own inquiries before turning to the public for help.

Insp Hughes said detectives particularly wanted to hear from anyone who could link the description of the driver who had a large neck tattoo and sleeve tattoos with someone who had access to such a white wagon.

“We are asking the public to connect the description, the tattoo and the car,’’ Insp Hughes said.

“If all those pieces of information come together we are going to be in a far better position.”

Insp Hughes said the witness’ report was the first time a car with such a description had come to the notice of investigators and conflicted with information they had about a different sighting of

Bung.

“Having said that the investigators still looked at that and have investigated as best they can to try and locate the vehicle and the driver,’’ he said.

“That hasn’t been fruitful.

“We exhausted our normal avenues of inquiry and we are going to the public.

“The family are looking for an answer.”

Mr Pattison said the family was holding on to hope Bung was still alive.

“We miss Bung a lot. We want her back. Somebody’s got to know something,’’ he said.

“It’s very difficult for someone to disappear off the face of the earth with no one seeing anything or knowing anything.

“We need her back.

“There are so many things that have happened that we have missed out on or we haven’t been able to do.”

Simple things reminded the family of the girl, who would turn 18 this year.

“There are so many different times it flashes back into your head — someone else achieving something, school bells when you’re near a school,’’ Mr Pattison said.

“Things trigger different emotions but we try not to dwell on it 24/7.

“You can’t function like that.

“There is no indication she has passed — so we have to believe that she is still alive and one day able to come home.

“That’s what we want. If it’s not going to happen we still want some sort of information, good or bad. It’s better than nothing.”

Homicide Squad Detective Inspector Michael Hughes said: “There are two specific pieces of information we are asking the public to consider, the description of the male with a large tattoo on his neck, and the description of the white coloured station wagon.

“We are asking the public to think about anyone that may fit the description and had a similar vehicle or may have had access to a similar vehicle.

“It’s now been five years since Bung left home and failed to arrive at school that day and has not been seen or heard from since.

“We continue to hold grave concerns for her safety and are desperate to provide her family with some answers.

“I urge anyone with information about the white station wagon seen in the Rowville area on the day, or any other information that they haven’t shared with police that could be of assistance, to contact Crime Stoppers.”

Anyone with fresh information about the disappearance of Bung Siriboon is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit www.crimestoppers.com.au.
