UPDATE: MURDERED grandmother Jeanette Moss may have let her killer into her Middle Park apartment, police believe.

A MURDERED grandmother may have let her killer into her apartment, police believe.

Homicide detectives are investigating if 69-year-old Jeanette Moss knew her attacker.

Ms Moss was discovered by a neighbour last Wednesday about 10.30am in her Middle Park apartment on Beaconsfield Parade. Police believe the widower was killed sometime between then and noon on Tuesday.

Detectives are pleading for any information from anyone who had seen Ms Moss in the 24 hours before her body was discovered.

In a bid to uncover a suspect police have set up an information caravan at the bottom of Ms Moss's building on Beaconsfield Pde.

Homicide squad Det-Insp John Potter said her apartment showed no sign of forced entry and the building had an intercom that required visitors to be buzzed in.

He said Ms Moss sustained injuries in the attack and police were able to deem the cause of death suspicious within 24 hours of finding her body.

"We're interested in hearing from anyone who may have seen Ms Moss on the day or in the hours leading up to her death, or anyone who might be aware of any plans she had to meet with someone on the Tuesday," Insp Potter said.

Detectives are baffled why the popular women with a zest for life was killed in her two-bedroom flat.

Insp Potter said there was no suspect for the crime.

He said Ms Moss had lived alone in the apartment since 1999 and could often be seen at the nearby shops in her Green BMW sedan.

"She was planning her 70th birthday party, which was imminent."

Ms Moss had two adult children and four grandchildren.

"Her children are distraught and seeking answer," he said.

Insp Potter could not confirm if Ms Moss ran a business trading jewellery overseas but he said all aspects of her life would be examined in a bid to uncover her killer.

Homicide detectives have canvassed her neighbours about the hours before her body was discovered.

Anyone who is not in the area, but has information about Ms Moss's death is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or www.crimestoppers.com.au
