A YOUTH is on the run after assaulting a man and stealing a number of his belongings, including a gold chain around his neck, as he lay helpless on the ground in Melbourne’s CBD.
Five men approached two other men on King St before engaging in conversation on New Year’s Eve about 6.30am.
CCTV footage captured one of the alleged offenders demanding cash from one of the victims and punching him in the face when he refused.

The same man then made demands for the other victim’s gold jewellery.
When he was refused, the alleged offender forcibly removed the gold jewellery from around his victim’s neck, before punching and kicking him to the head.

The alleged offender also stole an iPhone 7 Plus and an Armani watch from the second victim as he lay on ground after the attack.
Police have released CCTV footage and images of five men who they believe may be able to assist with their inquiries.
The five men fled north on King St, east into Lonsdale St, and were last seen heading north on William St.
They are perceived to be Pacific Islander or Asian in appearance and aged in their late teens to early 20s.
