MEMBERS of the Chaouk family are under investigation for at least two unsolved shootings.
Ali Chaouk was described as a person of interest in two shootings during a bail application at the Melbourne Magistrates Court where he is facing theft charges.
Police opposed bail, citing Chaouk's history of gun violence. Senior detective Gerard Plant told the court that Ali and his brother Kaled Chaouk are persons of interest in the shooting of their associate John Andonopolous in Deer Park last month.
Andonopolous was taken to hospital with three gun shot wounds but survived the attack.
"Ali Chaouk is a person of interest. He's known to the victim," Sen. Const. Plant said.
Sen Const. Plant said that although Ali Chaouk was in custody at the time if the shooting, his brother Kaled went to the hospital to ask if Andonopolous would survive.
The court also head Ali Chaouk is also a person of interest in a shooting in Loddon Drive, Taylors Hill.
Ali Chaouk was shot in the head in June, the second attempt on his life. A gun went off in his hand in April.
The Chaouk family have in recent years been linked with the Hells Angels bikie gang.
Mr Chaouk is not a son of Macchour Chaouk, the patriarch shot dead at his family's Brooklyn home in 2010.
He has a cousin also named Ali, who is the son of Macchour.
Today magistrate Charlie Rozencwajg granted Ali Chaouk bail on the theft charges.
He is due to reappear in February.
