Neighbours have spoken of their shock after a man aged 40, and woman aged 36, died in Nunawading on Saturday night.

Emergency services found the woman dead inside a white Audi SUV when they arrived.

The man died at the scene shortly after.

A child also in the luxury car was unharmed.

The three people all knew each other, according to police.

Daniel Bourke, who lives in the house next door to the property where the bodies were found, said a couple had purchased the house about ten years ago.

He said the couple had moved to live in Blackburn and rented the property out, but a man had returned to live in the house last Sunday.

He did not know if it was the couple who lived at the unit who had died but said the deaths of the two people was shocking.

“I was out walking my dog last night and came home to see police and ambulances and the driveway completely sealed off,” he said.

“I feel shocked, shocked, I’m in total shock.”

Hans Pecar lives across the road from where the incident took place and heard some noise but didn’t check the source until his wife alerted him to the emergency service vehicles.

“I was very surprised because this place is very quiet with normal people just going about their lives,” he said.

“I never thought something like that would happen.”

Mr Pecar said the fact a child was involved was terrible.

Neighbours surrounding the units said they had not heard any commotion tonight and that the units are on a quiet, family friendly street.

Mt Pleasant Rd is also the site of a primary school and connects to Canterbury Rd, a major street close to Nunawading Station.

The exact cause of death has not been determined but police are not looking for any other suspects.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
