A father of two has been placed in an induced coma after an altercation between two drivers in Point Cook, which saw the other party flee before police arrived.

The fight allegedly broke out as a result of the two drivers colliding on Saltwater Promenade at 8:15pm on Thursday night. The two drivers got out of their cars and allegedly began an argument which turned into a physical fight.

One man fled the scene before police arrived, while the other, a 33-year-old from Point Cook, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. He is currently in a critical but stable condition in an induced coma.

The hospitalised man’s brother, Troy Vernon, arrived from New Zealand this morning to see his brother and said the whole family is “not coping”.

‘I want to find out what’s happened and the legal system to do its job and make sure the right people are charged and brought to justice,” he said.

“He (my brother) is in an induced coma, it is not good … I’ve been told he has head injuries.

“Just come forward and explain what happened.

“I just want to get to the bottom of it.”

Mr Vernon told the Herald Sun that a quick-thinking nurse attended the scene and stopped to help his brother.

“She performed CPR, which may have helped quite a lot,” he said.

“He’s got two children, they need him.”

Senior Constable Alex Gemin has urged the driver of the other vehicle to come forward to police.

“The behaviour of the driver is obviously unacceptable to be leaving the scene, especially when something like that has happened,” he said.
