A man allegedly punched a police officer in the face this morning, after he was spotted acting “erratically” on Collins St.

A police officer was allegedly punched in the face by a man in Melbourne’s CBD this morning.
The man was approached after being spotted acting “erratically” on Collins Street shortly after 9am today.
Critical Incident Response Team members approached the man before he lashed out.

The alleged offender was tasered and arrested by police.
He was taken to hospital for assessment.
The police officer was not injured.
Causing injury to an emergency service worked carries a maximum 10 years imprisonment if intentionally caused and maximum 5 years of imprisonment if recklessly caused.
