A MAN has been charged for allegedly sexually assaulting a teenage girl while she waited for a bus in Melbourne’s east last year.

Detectives charged the 31-year-old today after tip-offs from the public led to the man’s arrest.

He has been charged with one count of sexual assault for the terrifying daylight attack on a 16-year-old girl at a Carrum Downs bus stop on Frankston-Dandenong Rd late last year.

The Doveton man is believed to have struck up a conversation with the girl before allegedly sexually assaulting her on 22 November.

It is understood the man then became verbally aggressive before getting in a red, three-door hatchback and driving away.

Leading Senior Constable Lee Thomson said investigators wish to thank members of the public who responded to an appeal for information, which led to the arrest.

He has been bailed to appear at Dandenong Magistrates Court on 2 May.
