A MAN who allegedly ran over a police officer’s foot, rammed a police car and smashed into a tree in a failed getaway attempt has walked free on bail.

Police were last night called to reports of an erratic driver in Roselyn Crescent, Wantirna South.

Two police officers approached the man’s car on foot and attempted to talk to the driver.

But it’s alleged the driver reversed the car, drove forward and ran over one of the police officer’s foot.

The driver then allegedly attempted to flee the scene but not before hitting another police car and crashing into a tree.

A 39-year-old Hoppers Crossing man was arrested and has been charged with a number of offences including reckless conduct and theft of motor vehicle.

He was bailed to appear at Ringwood Magistrate’s Court on 10 October.

The male police officer was taken to hospital for treatment.
