Keysborough fatal shooting: Police probe love triangle theory

A MAN killed in a shocking drive-by shooting while at a video games night with friends may have been the innocent victim in a deadly love triangle.

A MAN killed in a shocking drive-by shooting while at a video games night with friends may have been the innocent victim in a deadly love triangle.

The Herald Sun understands police are investigating the theory that the shooting could have been sparked by a jealous lover.

It is believed that a dispute about someone at the Keysborough house dating another person’s ex-girlfriend had occurred, which led to the violent confrontation.

The man who died was not the individual involved in the dispute.

The games night ended in a violent, bloody murder when gunmen opened fire on the group of unsuspecting friends on Tuesday night.

The men desperately pulled down a garage door to shield themselves, while round after round hit the Church Rd house. A man, 22, died and two friends suffered bullet wounds.

Shocked loved ones on Wednesday remembered the dead man, Mo, as a “respectable” and “sensible” young man.

“Mo was a very special boy,” family friend Naile said.

“It’s such a tragedy that this has happened.

“He came from a nice family that were decent ... he was not a kid with any trouble.”

Mo was gunned down as he stood to leave the gathering, the shot penetrating  his chest.

Despite the screams and desperate pleas from the other men as they cowered in the garage, the violence didn’t end there.

The attackers — armed with two different firearms, including a shotgun — continued firing, hitting one man in the leg and another in the arm.

Witnesses reported seeing multiple vehicles leaving the scene, including a black 4WD and light coloured hatchback.

Neighbours say parts of the street were a hotbed for secret drug activity and occasional hoon driving, but the area — 30km southeast of Melbourne’s CBD — was otherwise quiet and family-friendly.

Distraught family and friends of the victims on Wednesday gathered to share their grief.

The two injured men, aged 23 and 22, last night remained in a stable condition at The Alfred hospital.

Police Inspector Mark Langhorn said: “We’re concerned about the nature of the crime and will put a lot of police presence into this area.”
