V/Line and TAFE facilities in regional Victoria will be put under the microscope by the state’s corruption watchdog this month, following concerns of serious misconduct.

The independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission flagged the public probe would be held in Melbourne to delve into a number of different agencies over the awarding of qualifications, dodgy recruitment practices and the misuse of public positions.

The public hearings are part of the ongoing Operation Lansdowne, which is probing V/Line and the engagement of contractors, recruitment of officers and potential failure to report conflicts of interests.

The agencies spending of public money and reporting systems is also in the spotlight.

In the education sector the hearings will investigate current and former officers of South West TAFE or Bendigo Kangan Institute over alleged serious corrupt conduct.

The probe will examine the awarding of qualifications to Rebecca Taylor, director of Taytell Pty Ltd and whether officers misused their positions.

The negotiations and management of Taytell’s third party training agreements will also be probed.

The hearings are expected to kick off on June 27 at the County Court of Victoria conducted by the IBAC Commissioner, Mr Stephen O’Bryan QC.
