At least one man was in handcuffs, and several males involved were understood to have fled down Clarendon St.

After the fight, the footpath was littered with the remnants of pepper spray and blood, along with bottles of alcohol and smashed glass.

Around 12.30am, police were taking witness statements at the scene and collecting CCTV footage from nearby businesses.

A witness Dom Galante told the Herald Sun he saw a group of up to 20 young adults or teens involved in the fight.

“I heard screams, they looked liked they were in their late teens, early 20s. I could see punches being thrown. I heard female voices screaming and panicking, using obscene language,” he said.

Patrick Tonks witnessed the whole fight.

“People came out of Fabrique club running, they were running outside of the club,” he told the Herald Sun.

“It was a big fight, there were people everywhere, it went for about ten minutes.

“It escalated pretty quickly.

“It was between two groups of males and it eventually spilled onto the road and across the street.

“Girls were tackling each other on the middle of the road.

“Everyone was just hitting one girl on the ground relentlessly.

“Police came within minutes and used pepper spray to break up the fights. They then pulled their tasers out.

“It wasn’t clear who the troublemakers were but it was like mob activity...it was chaotic.”

A bouncer at Fabrique nightclub told the Herald Sun it was “sheer commotion”.

Dozens of police, including members of the Critical Incident Response Unit attended, as well as paramedics.

A young female was seen being helped by paramedics.

She had a large amount of blood on her dress and was being treated for pepper spray in her eyes.

The incident caused City Rd to be blocked off as both sides of the road were treated as a crime scene.

A Victoria Police spokesman confirmed officers were called out to reports of a fight.

“The fight was ongoing when police arrived and pepper spray was deployed,” Senior Constable Adam West said. “Three men were arrested.”
