Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton’s blitz on foreign nationals sees more kicked out of Australia

HOME Affairs Minister Peter Dutton’s crackdown on foreign-born criminals has seen more paedophiles, rapists, killers, drug dealers and armed robbers kicked out of Australia.

My obligation is to keep Australians safe: Dutton

FOUR killers and 28 paedophiles were among 167 foreign-born criminals living in Victoria who had their visas scrapped in the past year.

The cancellations were part of Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton’s ongoing blitz to rid the nation of such offenders.

Another 36 criminals who committed violent crimes have lost their visas and 10 perverts with convictions for rape and other sex offences will also be kicked out of Australia.

Figures for the 2017-18 financial year provided to the Herald Sun also reveal that included in the list of 167 Victorian-based criminals stripped of visas were four convicted of murder or manslaughter, 32 drug dealers and 18 armed robbers.

A violent Turkish criminal was one of 164 criminals the Herald Sun revealed in April had been saved from deportation by the Administrative Appeals Tribunal since 2010.

It is believed Mr Dutton overturned the AAT decision for the man, who was given a spouse visa so he could come to Australia to take part in an arranged marriage which only lasted three weeks.

His visa was cancelled after he pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary, recklessly causing injury and making threats to kill. Part-time AAT member Elizabeth Anne Shanahan last year revoked the decision of Mr Dutton’s delegate to cancel the visa.

Ms Shanahan also said that the man had made “a positive contribution to the Australian community” and that “the Australian community would expect” him to be given a second chance.

Mr Dutton told the Herald Sun the Turnbull Government made no apology for acting against non-Australians who commit serious crimes “in our community”.

“They forfeit their ability to live in this great country once they break our laws and commit violent or other serious crimes,” he said.

Nationally, 907 visas of foreign-born criminals were cancelled in the past financial year, most in New South Wales with 314, followed by Queensland with 220, Victoria with 167, Western Australia with 145, 45 in South Australia, 10 in the Northern Territory, five in the ACT and one in Tasmania.
